Equipment
All IKK members are expected to wear a kendo uniform (hakama and keikogi) or work out clothes to practice. Each student is responsible for purchasing a shinai (flexible bamboo sword, approx $25 each). Additional equipment to consider is the bokutoh (wooden sword), a bag to transport your swords to class, and bogu (protective armor). The club has a limited number of bogu sets to loan to students.
| Keikogi |
 |
The kiekogi is the shirt portion of the uniform. |
| Hakama |
 |
The kendo uniform is made up of two pieces, the kiekogi (shirt) and hakama (pants).
A hakama contains seven deep pleats, 2 on the back and 5 on the front. The seven pleats relate to the virtues of bushido. |
| Shinai |
 |
A shiani is usually sword sword made up of 4 individual bamboo slots fitted together. Carbon-graphite shianis also exist that require less upkeep, but are more expensive. |
| Bokken |
 |
A bokken is a wooden sword that is used to replicate a katana, or other type of bladed weapon. Bokken are used to perform kata in both Kendo and Iaido. |
| Bogu |
 |
A bogu is a 5 piece set of armor used in Kendo. Bogu is the collective name of the five pieces of armor used in Kendo; men (head), do (chest), kote (hands), and tara (waist/groin). |
